Geez, Irish Catholics seem to be on a roll these days for horrible, abusive stupidity. Today’s bit of jolliness: today a 2,600-page report was released documenting decades of sexual, physical and emotional abuse of children in Catholic church run reform schools. Many of the children were there because of the “crime” of being born to an unwed mother.

A lot of those clergymen responsible for the rapes and beatings of young boys will go unidentified and unpunished due to a successful lawsuit that the Christian Brothers brought in 2004 to keep the names of their members out of the report.

The Catholic religious orders that ran more than 50 workhouse-style reform schools from the late 19th century until the mid-1990s offered public words of apology, shame and regret Wednesday. But when questioned, their leaders indicated they would continue to protect the identities of clergy accused of abuse — men and women who were never reported to police, and were instead permitted to change jobs and keep harming children.

The Christian Brothers’ leader in Ireland, Brother Kevin Mullan, said the organization had been right to keep names secret because “perhaps we had doubts about some of the allegations.”

What I have doubts about is why the Catholic church is still in existence.

Mike Huckabee is shocked- shocked! I tell you- that Nancy Pelosi would suggest that the CIA lied to her. I mean, who ever thought that a spy agency, of all things, might be interested in secrecy and deceit?

I’m pretty lathered up about Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s outrageous allegations that the CIA is lying and now denying she ever was briefed on waterboarding. She’s either not telling the truth or has lost the necessary mental skills of basic memory to remain in her job.

Not to defend Pelosi in any way- she’s as likely to be lying as anyone- but c’mon. Stand on all the patriotism you want. Wave the flag, recite the pledge, get a crappy little made-in-China yellow ribbon for your car. But if you’re going to hold up the CIA as a paragon of virtue, then please: shut the fuck up. You’re an idiot.

But wait… there’s more! He was so steamed he could only express himself in verse. So, without further ado, here’s Ode to Nancy Pelosi:

I think Speaker Pelosi has done too much speaking;
And instead of her trashing our intelligence officials, it’s her nose that needs tweaking.

If forced to believe whether the CIA and her colleagues in Congress are lying,
Or it’s Speaker Pelosi whose credibility and career is dying,
I believe in the integrity of the men and women who sacrifice to keep us safe;
Not the woman who has been caught flat-footed, lying to our face.
